The latest crime statistics paint a "concerning" picture for Tamworth, where domestic violence-related assaults are occurring at 1.7 times the NSW rate and break-and-enters at three times the state average.

Overall, the rate of recorded criminal incidents in the Tamworth Regional LGA is higher than the overall NSW rate for most major offence categories.

Executive Director of BOCSAR, Jackie Fitzgerald, said it seems like the crime results have "mostly stabilised" but there are parts of regional NSW where crime is in decline and "we're not seeing that broadly in the New England North West", of which Tamworth is a part.

In the two years to June 2025, domestic violence-related assaults in the Tamworth Region increased by 21.6 per cent, and theft from a retail store increased by 24.8pc;
