Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s case has been described as the 'trial of history' and represents a democratic milestone for many in the country.

In Latin America, power is a debt that follows you long after you leave office. So far in 2025, four former presidents of the region have been sentenced to prison for crimes ranging from corruption to offences against democracy.
