CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland City Council is gearing up to do something on Monday that it hasn’t done since the 1970s: publicly condemn one of its own with a censure.

Council will vote whether to censure Ward 1 Councilman Joe Jones at its Monday night meeting. Two outside investigations have concluded that Councilman Joe Jones engaged in serious misconduct — first by bullying staff, and later by threatening to kill an employee.

The vote will be held at Council’s 7 p.m. meeting. But the censure vote will look different compared to the legislative body’s normal meetings, according to an email sent to council members.

Council President Blaine Griffin will read the entire censure resolution out loud. Then each council representative — including Jones — will have a chance to make remarks.
