WINCHESTER — A vigil to remember conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, who was slain last week during an event at Utah Valley University, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on the Loudoun Street Mall in downtown Winchester, according to one of the organizers.

Local resident Leandra Ganci says the vigil is a nondenominational grassroots effort for people to come together in prayer.

"This is not a political event," she stressed.

Organizers will have 300 candles to hand out, but people are welcome to bring their own.

People are invited to gather in front of the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Museum.

She says the hope is that those who attend "walk away with a new sense of hope and understanding."

"We will pray for America," Ganci said. "We want people to come in prayer and peace."
