KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - As Kansas City leaders consider a temporary plan to house suspects and inmates, a Jackson County leader said he has a different idea that could benefit everyone.
Sean Smith said he plans to introduce a plan to address the possibility of using the existing Jackson County Detention Center as a temporary city jail.
Smith’s plan would create a 30-day study between the county and Kansas City, Mo., to determine if the idea would work.
If the Jackson County Legislature approves the resolution for the 30-day study, it would work like this:
Jackson County would not charge Kansas City to use the jail
Kansas City would assume operational expenses
Kansas City would pay for any maintenance expenses
The study would take place at the same time as the city’s bid process
