GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — After Josh Zimmerman lost his brother to suicide, he took to the piano and composed a song called “Finding Peace.”

Zimmerman said his younger brother, Justin, had a high GPA in high school, successful wrestler and went to college on scholarship.

“Pretty much everything he touched turned to gold,” he said.

But at some point, family noticed something his smile and attitude change. Ultimately, Justin took his own life 11 years ago. Zimmerman wrote a song to capture the grief behind the moment after Justin died.

“That was the first maybe 30 seconds to a minute of the song was trying to capture that grief and I hit a wall and couldn’t write any more of the music,” Zimmerman said.

After writing the rest of the album, he was able to go back to that first song.
