LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Ingham County officials are working to fight back against gun violence and prevent accidental shootings. The prosecutor announced a new safe storage of firearms campaign Monday morning.
“It’s very important because it’s personal,” said Michael McKissic.
McKissic is well-known in the community for his gun violence prevention work with the Mikey 23 Foundation, in honor of his son Mikey who was shot and killed in 2015.
“The gun that was used against my son could’ve been an illegal gun,” said McKissic. “If that gun was put up safely, my son would be here today.”
That’s why he joined Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane, as well as the Lansing mayor and police chief, to kick off a new campaign focusing on Michigan's safe storage law.
