GORDO, Ala. ( WBRC ) - WBRC has an update out of west Alabama on the Gordo bypass project .

Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) engineers say the on-going work is going really well.

The project is in the final phase after a five year delay due to weather conditions and the COVID-19 pandemic.

ALDOT says all that’s left is the base-and-pave portion, which is happening right now.

“We’re doing this so we have move traffic flow and move traffic more efficiently and safely through that area. And it also helps commerce, so trucks won’t have to go through the city, they can go to the north,” said west Alabama ALDOT spokesman John McWilliams.

McWilliams says the overall $45 million project is on tap to be wrapped up by the end of 2026.
