GRAND FORKS — They say “better late than never.”

About three months after Pride celebrations took place across the country, Grand Forks hosted its first-ever Pride Parade on Sunday, Sept. 14, drawing hundreds of people downtown to celebrate inclusion of the LGBTQ-plus community.

“It’s very humbling,” said Bridget Brooks, the parade’s grand marshal.

Brooks, chair of UND’s LGBTQ-plus Faculty and Staff Association, said the emotion of the moment hit her as the parade neared downtown.

“And as we got closer to downtown, and we started to see people in the streets on both sides, the tears just started coming down my eyes,” Brooks said.

Brooks was selected as grand marshal following the endowment she and her wife created this year for the university’s Pride Center.
