DULUTH — Service workers across University of Minnesota campuses returned to work over the weekend after a four-day strike that concluded when a tentative contract agreement was reached.
Representing over 1,400 food service, janitorial and maintenance workers across the university system, Teamsters Local 320 began their strike Sept. 8. On Sept. 5, workers voted by an 82% majority to reject a prior contract offer from the university, citing frustrations with over wage increases and changes to the contract’s end date.
Workers on Crookston and Morris campuses were the first to walk off the job, stating they would not return unless offered the 3.5% annual wage increase other university unions received. Teamsters at the University of Minnesota Duluth and the Twin Cities campus joined strike
