SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The San Diego Unified School District is making a sweeping move to transition away from some K-8 Middle Schools, forcing some middle school students to move to other schools in the district.

On Friday, the school district sent out letters to families alerting them of the transition. The schools impacted include Fulton, Bethune, Golden Hill and Audobon.

“We are transitioning some of our K-8 middle schools to become K-5 elementary schools starting in the 2026-27 school year,” said the district in a statement. “This transition will ensure students have access to everything they need to be well-rounded students who are prepared for post-secondary success.”
