AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — According to court documents, two men pleaded guilty to murder charges stemming from a 2022 incident.

As was previously reported on Myhighplains, in September 2022, three people were alleged to have shot and killed Adam Maes, 17, during a robbery. Maes’s body was found at an apartment complex in the 2800 block of North Grand Street.

Both Javonne and Kezabien were originally indicted in 2023 along with a third person, but the charges were dismissed in January 2024. The charges against Javonne and Kezabien were re-filed on Feb. 14.

Javonne Mayes and Kezabien Mayes pleaded guilty to murder and were sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Javonne Mayes also pleaded guilty to one county of "Aggravated Assault" and was sentenced to 15 years in prison on that charge.
