Benton Harbor Mayor Marcus Muhammad will be in Lansing Tuesday to lend his voice to the call for the approval of a state budget.
Democratic leaders from the state Senate and Republican leaders from the state House are at odds over the next spending plan and have been locked in a stalemate for months. If they don’t reach a deal by the deadline, there will be a state government shutdown.
Muhammad said during Monday’s Benton Harbor City Commission meeting no one will win in a government shutdown.
“ We have issues with funding in our schools, lunches, and many other initiatives, furlough days nobody needs,” Muhammad said. “ So we’ll be working to help in the effort to get a budget passed for all Michiganders.”
