WEST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The assassination of Charlie Kirk is still on the minds of many -- including in West Haven, where a vigil was held to memorialize the conservative activist.

More than one hundred candles were held in the air for Kirk on Monday night in West Haven.

"He just wanted to engage in simple conversation,” David Riccio, West Haven Republican Town Chairman, said about Kirk.

Monday marks five days since Kirk was assassinated at Utah Valley University while giving a speech. Although Kirk was seen as a controversial figure by many, Riccio says both Democrats and Republicans were involved in the planning of Monday's vigil.

"Obviously there were some things I didn't agree with, but isn't that why we are here in the world? So, we can debate and talk,” James Remses said.
