BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - Death is a topic that’s often avoided, but it’s the only guarantee in life.
Over time, society has developed ways to cope with or mourn the loss of a loved one, and the McLean County Museum of History’s new exhibit was built to showcase these traditions.
“Mourning in McLean” is a three-floor exhibit featuring seven displays, all of which relate to late 19th and early 20th-century mourning practices and funeral customs.
Education Director Candace Summers said that when she began digging through the archives, she noticed how some traditions completely disappeared, some have been altered, and some are still used today. She said she wanted to help people understand why and how we grieve.
“I know it’s kind of a taboo topic, nobody wants to think about death,
