Five candidates are trying to win a seat to serve as the Ward 5 representative on the Hickory City Council.

A primary will be held for Ward 5 candidates only. Early voting for the Hickory Ward 5 primary will begin Thursday.

Early voting will begin at 8 a.m. on Sept. 18 at Highland Recreation Center. Early voting will run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. from Sept. 18 until Oct. 3. Early voting in the primary will conclude Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.

Election day for the Ward 5 primary is Oct. 7. Voting will run from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Voters will head to their assigned precinct voting locations if they choose to vote on Oct. 7.

The primary only applies to the approximately 4,800 voters who live in Ward 5, comprised of precincts 11, 13, 14, 17, 26, 36 and 38. Th
