Police are planning to dig up the backyard of a Port Lincoln home after launching a fresh search into the 2002 cold case disappearance of Susan Goodwin.

Goodwin, aged 39 at the time, was last seen shopping in the local Coles and Woolworths.

Authorities suspect she was murdered, though previous extensive searches have failed to locate her remains.

Officers say today's search comes from an ongoing review of the case and all available evidence.

The current focus is a home on Pamir Court in Port Lincoln, where officers have been seen sectioning off the lawn and using radar equipment provided by the Australian Federal Police.
