MEMPHIS, Tenn. - President Donald Trump released a statement on social media Saturday, taking credit for reduced crime numbers in Memphis.

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) reported that overall crime is at a 25-year low. Those numbers include the fewest amount of homicides in six years. Trump posted on Truth Social, saying that crime has dropped because of his intervention. Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis has cited MPD's partnership with federal authorities as a reason for the decrease in crime. Likewise, both Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and Memphis Mayor Paul Young have said they'd welcome additional cooperation with federal law enforcement, such as the FBI and DEA.
