The City of Belleville is reviewing the Short-Term Accommodation (STA) bylaw to ensure its meeting the needs of the community.

The city has been working for years to bring STAs into compliance through registration to ensure owners are paying their fair share of the Municipal Accomodation Tax (MAT).

It has also laid down strict bylaw standards for STA owners who rent their properties to patrons for short-term stays.

The STA bylaw refers to a dwelling or dwelling unit, or any portion of it, that is rented for a

period of less than 30 days, but does not include a motel, hotel, hospital, tourist inn or

accommodations where there is no payment exchanged.
