SAN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) - A Texas DPS Trooper was killed in the line of duty responding to assist a fellow officer, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of one of our own who exemplified courage, dedication, and selfless service to the people of Texas. We extend our deepest prayers and condolences to his family, friends, and fellow Troopers during this difficult time,” Texas DPSOA said.

Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough says the Trooper’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

“Please join me in prayer for this Trooper, their family and the entire DPS family as they grieve this tragic loss,” Judge Keough said.

Judge Keough says DPS will release further information later today.
