SCOTTSBURG, Ind. — Firefighters are working to extinguish a fire Tuesday morning in a southern Indiana apartment building.
At about 2:30 a.m., Scottsburg Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire at 111 West Cherry Street in Scottsburg, according to Scottsburg Fire officials.
The 15,000-square-foot building was in flames when firefighters arrived on scene. The building was previously a tire shop but has since been converted into an apartment building.
Scottsburg Fire Chief James Richey said there is still an "extensive fire" due to a five-foot void area underneath the building where a fire remains active.

Chief Richey said when crews first arrived on scene, a wall became compromised, they pulled their units outside, then the wall collapsed. H
