SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WAVE) - Firefighters in Scottsburg are on the scene of a structure fire and are advising the public to avoid the area while they work to control the blaze.
Scottsburg Fire and Rescue are working on a structure fire in the 100 block of West Cherry Street that began at 2:30 a.m. The fire is at an apartment building across the street from a Scottsburg fire station.
That station allowed the first truck to arrive on the scene within minutes before a larger truck was able to come in from across town.
According to SFR Chief James Ritchey, the building used to be a manufacturing plant and then was turned into a tire factory before being converted to apartments with 11 units, nine were occupied at the time of the fire.
