This was the shocking moment rescuers crawled through thick smoke to save a 76-year-old man from his burning home .

Police body-worn footage captures the tense moment first responders rushed into a burning house in Chesterfield Township, Michigan, on Sept. 10.

Despite the flames and thick black smoke, officers and firefighters crawled inside to reach the trapped homeowner.

They found the elderly man gasping for air and fighting for his life.

The homeowner was rushed to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and burns to his body - and remains in a critical condition.
