MEDINA, Ohio -- During his final State of the City address, Mayor Dennis Hanwell took some time to look back on the positive changes that have taken place in Medina during his 16-year tenure.

Hanwell presented the State of the City to City Council and city department heads Sept. 8, then to the Greater Medina Chamber of Commerce Sept. 9.

When he first took office in 2010, Hanwell said one of his main goals was to increase income tax revenue for the city.

Income tax revenue in 2009 totaled roughly $12.4 million. But by last year, the city collected more than $21 million -- a 70 percent increase over 2009.

“We knew we wanted to increase income tax revenue because the cost of operating the city would continue to go up and up,” Hanwell said.
