(Bloomberg) — Chrystia Freeland is leaving her cabinet post as transport and internal trade minister to become Canada’s new special representative for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced in a statement on Tuesday that she will take on the role while remaining a member of Parliament. He said Freeland is “uniquely positioned” for the job given her work as a former minister of finance, foreign affairs and international trade.

Freeland had returned to cabinet under Carney after publicly quitting ex-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s front bench and precipitating his departure from politics. She said in a separate statement she does not intend to run in the next election.
