WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - He was a St. Lawrence County legislator, businessman, family man and coach.

Dan Fay of Canton passed away Saturday at age 81.

He was a long-time St. Lawrence County lawmaker. Most recently, he was one of three Democrats on the board.

Fay was also the owner of the Hoot Owl in Canton, an accounting instructor and wrestling coach.

Democrats on the county legislature will appoint someone to finish out the rest of Fay’s term.

Legislature Chairman David Forsythe says he, along with the rest of the board, will miss him.

“He was just a good guy to have on the board, even though we belong to different parties. He always had a smile. He was always willing to do whatever you asked him, and he always had good input. He was just a good member,” said Forsythe.
