Two Framingham, Massachusetts, police officers are on paid leave as their department investigates issues that may involve health and wellness concerns, the department said Tuesday.

The department didn't say what misconduct allegations prompted the move, noting that it was a personnel matter that can't be discussed publicly.

No criminal charges have been filed, but the Framingham police statement noted that it's possible that the internal review could lead to a referral for criminal investigation.

"Our focus remains on protecting the community, ensuring accountability, and supporting the wellness of our personnel," the department's statement said.

It didn't say who would be leading the internal investigation.
