An investigation is underway after human remains were found in a storage shed that had been repossessed from Birmingham.
Demopolis police were dispatched just before 2:30 p.m. Monday to Alabama Portable Sheds on 1620 Highway East.
Chief Rex Flowers said one of the workers discovered the decomposed remains as they were cleaning out the storage shed.
The shed, the chief said, had been repossessed from an address in Birmingham.
Flowers said because of the state of decomposition, investigators believe the person had been dead anywhere between several weeks to several months.
The remains have not yet been formally identified.
Crime scene investigators and fire personnel retrieved the remains, which have now been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for further examination.
