LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Ever since Texas Tech left Atlanta’s Omni Coliseum by winning an 84-82 thriller over Ohio State to win the 1993 Women’s Final Four, the legacy has continued for the next three decades.
Naismith winner Sheryl Swoopes would soon enjoy a successful career as a professional and become an ambassador for women’s basketball across the globe. Marsha Sharp, who was the long-time Lady Raiders head basketball coach, now has a freeway named in her honor. Krista Kirkland now has the same job leading the Lady Raiders and is known as “Coach Gerlich”.
Come November, the team will leave its mark on Lubbock once more- being inducted into the Texas Tech Ring of Honor.
