BUSHWICK, Brooklyn (PIX11) --- The two workers taken into custody after a 59-year-old man was beaten to death with a baton in a Brooklyn deli Monday night are being released without charges, police sources said Tuesday.

Cops said the victim, Gerry Hill, was attacked inside the Royal Deli and Grill on Knickerbocker Avenue near Jefferson Street, down the street from his home in Bushwick, at around 7:05 p.m.

Authorities believe Hill, a neighborhood panhandler with dozens of arrests, started the brawl before he was hit on the head with a baton, police said. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved.

The store workers, a 37-year-old man and a 48-year-old man, were taken into custody but are expected to be released without charges while the investigation is ongoing
