BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The Ridgecrest Police Department is expected to receive a grant that would allow them to purchase 10 electric bikes for patrol purposes, according to the Ridgecrest City Council agenda.

The grant funding comes from the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, which offers New Alternative Fuel Vehicle grants for e-bikes, according to the agenda.

If approved by the city council, Ridgecrest police would receive $100,000 to purchase 10 of the All Terrain Response 528 Police e-bikes from American Bike Patrol Services.

According to city officials, the bikes have a manufacturer-estimated range of 65 miles and can be used on all surfaces and terrains. They were developed to be used by law enforcement and will be fully equipped for Ridgecrest police functi
