CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - An emergency services director for a coastal county has been fired in the middle of hurricane season.
Stephen Rea had been the emergency services director in Carteret County since January 2017, making $135,680 a year. He was let go this morning.
In the dismissal letter obtained by WITN, County Manager Sharon Griffin told Rea he had enacted policies that were in violation of employment and labor law.
In a meeting on Friday, the letter says Rea was told the “Lack of truthfulness with the County Manager” and “Gross refusal to attend to your duties and flagrant violation of policy as a department head” were the basis for potential dismissal.
