SOMERS, Conn. (WTNH) — Construction is underway this week on a new playground in Somers, built to honor four children who died in a house fire last year.

The children's mother and father, Rebecca Whiteley and Kevin Koropatkin, spent their Tuesday taking it all in.

The playground honors their four children, Lukas, Genevieve, Benjamin and Archer who died in that deadly fire in January 2024.

Whiteley says although the past year has been difficult, it brings her joy seeing the playground to remember her children.

"I think I'm going to be driving by a lot," she said.

Volunteers with the organization "Where Angels Play Foundation" helped build the playground.

"We get to join one another, in a positive way and to be able to bring some joy and healing to the family and the community," Bill L
