HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — For the tenth year in a row, local leaders were at the state Capitol to celebrate Mexican Independence Day.

The celebration included live mariachi music and folklorico dancers. Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz was one of many leaders in attendance at the event on Tuesday.

"We recognize the influence of Mexican culture, tradition and leadership that has been rooted in so many of our communities across Connecticut," Bysiewicz said.

Per tradition, the Mexican flag was raised at the Connecticut Capitol Building to honor the holiday.
