GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - The Green Bay Police Department has started training its K9s for use on the water. Six police K9s are used for a variety of purposes.
Typically, they are not used on boats, but that has changed.
Seeing a gap and fulfilling it before that need arose in a real-world scenario. That’s what the Green Bay Police Department did this year with their K9 unit.
“We saw a gap in training, and we figured we should shore up that training to match that opportunity,” acting Lieutenant Erik O’Brien said.
Green Bay is a port city, which means the Green Bay PD is in charge of protecting that port.
So, they recognize the use of K9 officers on the water would be a valuable tool.
