MONTANA - The Montana Department of Corrections is planning to construct a new women's correctional facility in the state.
The department has issued a request for information regarding land availability, infrastructure services and workforce. Communities interested in hosting the facility have until October 1 to respond.
In the 2025 legislative session, a bill was signed into law creating the Future of Corrections Fund. This initiative provides $246 million to enhance correctional capacity in Montana.
Currently, there are only eight vacant beds available for women in state correctional facilities.
