TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) -- Tuscaloosa City Schools is seeking to hire 21 school bus drivers for the current school year.

There are nearly two dozen driver positions vacant, district leaders have described the need as critical:

“We’re doing everything we can to keep routes running safely and on time,” said Mike Daria, Superintendent of Tuscaloosa City Schools. “But we need help. These positions are essential.”

Benefits of being a bus driver: • Starting hourly pay of $23.80 • All buses are air-conditioned, a comfort not guaranteed in many districts across Alabama • TCS will fully reimburse the cost of obtaining a commercial driver’s license (CDL) for those who don’t already have one • State retirement and affordable health insurance
