ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A preschool teacher's assistant tied a 21-month-old up with a thin blanket for more than 20 minutes, a report from the Virginia Department of Social Services alleges.

The VINCI School Alexandria North teacher's assistant was fired last month, immediately after the school found out about the incident. According to the DSS report, the assistant tied the child to a chair during lunch time around 11:40 a.m. Aug. 13 in the school's Junior Toddler classroom.

The teacher's assistant apparently said that she restrained the toddler because the child threw food on the floor and got up from the table while they were supposed to be eating. The report said the assistant didn't try to use redirection to get the child to sit back down.
