KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knoxville City Council met Tuesday night to discuss and approve several measures, including an agreement to bring a rail trail and an art walk to South Knoxville.

As a part of the agreement with Knoxville & Holston River Railroad, a short-line railroad owned by Gulf & Ohio Railways that is headquartered in Knoxville and the Legacy Parks Foundation, a portion of rail line will get converted into a new 3.8 mile rail-to-trail greenway.

It would also include a privately-funded 1.5 mile long art walk as part of a federal rail banking agreement.

This greenway will run between Chapman Highway and Ijams Nature Center when it is complete, officials said. Construction is slated to begin before the end of the year.
