A passenger jet came alarmingly close to Air Force One as it flew over New York, prompting swift action from air traffic controllers. The incident involved a Spirit Airlines flight, which was on a route from Fort Lauderdale to Boston. It was reported that the Spirit flight was on a similar flight path to the Boeing 747 carrying the US President.
Air traffic controllers quickly alerted the pilots of Spirit Flight 1300 to change their course. Although the two aircraft remained several miles apart and were not in immediate danger, the controller expressed frustration during the exchange. The audio revealed the controller instructing, "Spirit 1300, turn 20 degrees right, Spirit 1300, turn 20 degrees right now. Pay attention, Delta 951 Boston Centre, 134.0, Spirit 1300 traffic's off your left wing by six or eight miles, 747. I'm sure you can see who it is. It's flight level is 320, maintain 330. Keep an eye out for him, his white and blue."
Following the warning, the Spirit flight altered its direction as instructed. The incident occurred as Mr Trump and First Lady Melania were en route to the UK for a state visit. They arrived without further incident and are scheduled to meet the King and Queen at a state banquet this evening. The King is expected to deliver a welcoming speech to the US President, while Queen Camilla will showcase an elaborate dolls' house, designed by architect Sir Edwin Lutyens over a century ago. Prince William and Catherine are also set to participate in the official welcome for the American leader.
