QUINCY (WGEM) - Last week, the Quincy Service Club was joined by local volunteers as they placed 1,000 American flags in honor of 9/11 victims. On Friday, Sept. 12, nine of those flags went missing.

The theft occurred between the hours of 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. Saturday, and marks the second straight year the Stars and Stripes were taken from the group’s Field of Honor display.

The nine missing flags are worth nearly $200.

However, members of the Quincy Service Club are more concerned by the nature of the crime itself than with the financial implications.

This year marked the 12th time the banners were placed in honor of victims of the 9/11 terror attacks. The QSC also uses the flags to honor veterans throughout the rest of the year, mostly during holidays.
