The word “incentive” can raise hackles on Loveland City Council, but a proposal aimed at boosting economic activity in and around the Northern Colorado Regional Airport encountered little turbulence at Tuesday’s meeting.

After a short and friendly debate, members voted 7 to 1 in favor of a business attraction program that will offer sales and use tax rebates for high-value aircraft purchases and aerospace industry investment, potentially bringing more revenue and jobs to the city.

“All incentives are just tools to attract companies whether they need it or not,” said Councilor Steve Olson before voting to implement the program. “It’s just a little carrot for them to consider when they’re looking at locations.”
