LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Michigan school attendance has improved for the third consecutive year, according to data released Wednesday by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

Statewide attendance rates have steadily increased, rising from 88.8% in the 2021–22 school year to 91.3% in 2024–25. The most recent year saw an uptick from 90.8% to 91.3%.

Chronic absenteeism has declined across all student groups. However, economically disadvantaged students remain significantly more likely to be chronically absent compared to their peers.

In the 2024–25 school year, 38.6% of economically disadvantaged students were chronically absent, a decrease of 1.5 percentage points from 40.1% the previous year.

By comparison, the statewide average for chronic absenteeism among all students was 27.9
