With a trumpet in hand on a recent Wednesday evening, Lt. Richard Li kicked off the music lesson designed for children.

His wife, Danielle, was in another room, jumpstarting a crash course on dance for the little ones.

When both sessions were finished, the couple joined forces for a chorus.

This Music and Creative Arts Night is new to The Salvation Army of Danville.

So are the leaders.

In whirlwind turns of events, two lieutenants were married, started new jobs and moved to Danville all in a month.

The path that brought them to The Salvation Army — and to one another — was one rooted in faith.

Danielle, 28, was born in the nearby Durham-Chapel Hill area of North Carolina, but grew up in Atlanta.

She lived in Florida for six years when she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology
