CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The attorney representing the Charleston County magistrate judge facing federal charges of having sexually-explicit material involving children will fight a decision to deny bond.

James B. Gosnell Jr., 68, is charged with possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the United States Department of Justice.

Gosnell’s attorney, Lionel Lofton, expressed concerns at a Wednesday morning bond hearing for his client’s safety in the general jail population, given Gosnell’s experience as a judge handling warrants and charges against current inmates.

“He’s been the bond judge on some of the cases of inmates in there and the preliminary judge on some of the cases. He’s issued warrants for some of the people in there. So there are all sorts of potential problems
