AUBURN, Ala. —

The president of Auburn University released a statement on Wednesday announcing the termination of several employees after social media posts.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville attributed the move to comments that the employees made regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and thanked Auburn for firing them.

"Thank you, @AuburnU , for taking action and FIRING these sick people who mocked the assassination of Charlie Kirk," Tuberville posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, Wednesday. "They have NO PLACE in our state’s public education system."

While there is no mention of Kirk's death in the university's message, this comes at a time when people around the country are being fired or publicly criticized for their comments about the conservative activist's
