Area law enforcement and search and rescue organizations on Wednesday launched a search for a missing hiker in the Prairie Creek trailhead area.

Heather Wayment, 46, last had contact with her family Tuesday morning, Blaine County Sheriff Morgan Ballis said in a news release announcing the search and providing a photo of Wayment. County license plate readers on Tuesday afternoon recorded Wayment’s car traveling north on state Highway 75.

Wayment’s car was found at the Prairie Creek trailhead, roughly 18 miles north of Ketchum off Highway 75, after her family reported her missing Wednesday morning, Ballis said. Blaine County Search & Rescue crew members were deployed at roughly 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The search paused Wednesday night before resuming Thursday morning.
