A group of mountain bikers found Wayment on a "a remote trail in Camas County" 17.3 miles from the Prairie Creek trailhead, her last known location, Blaine County Sheriff Morgan Ballis announced at roughly 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Wayment shared her name with the mountain bikers, who called 911 using a satellite phone, guided a Life Flight crew to her and stayed with her "offering aid until medical assistance could arrive," Ballis said.

"Due to the remote location, significant logistics were involved in rescuing Heather from her discovered location," Ballis said. "The air ambulance was on scene by 4:20 p.m., and Heather was transported by Life Flight 76 at approximately 5:45 p.m. with unknown injuries to St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Boise, Idaho."
