PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A man convicted of killing another man in Peoria during an 2023 attempted robbery asked a Peoria County Judge to reconsider his sentence on Thursday.

Tramier Pate, 25, was convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to 85 years in prison in July for shooting and killing Omarius Gates more than two years ago.

The fatal shooting happened in June 2023 when a large group of people, including Pate and Gates, gathered at the Woodlands Apartment Complex for basketball. Pate attempted to rob Gates and shot him after the group had walked to a nearby store.

On Thursday, Peoria County Judge Paul Bauer denied his attorney’s motion to reconsider his sentence. Pate and his attorney now plan to appeal.

Pate’s next court date is undetermined.
