Auburn’s defense will be tested this week in ways that it hasn’t yet been this season.
The Tigers are set to face Oklahoma, whose offense is led by Washington State transfer quarterback John Mateer, the SEC’s current leader in passing yards. As impressive as Mateer’s passing numbers are, though, that’s not all he can do.
He’s rushed for at least one touchdown in each of Oklahoma’s first three games this season and has 161 yards on the ground. That creates a multi-faceted challenge for the Tigers’ defense on Saturday.
“It’s difficult,” Auburn head coach told reporters on Thursday. “You gotta guard him and worry about him running too.”
